Certification Program for the Credentialing Professional

I.C.E. launched the premier certification program for credentialing professionals in the Fall 2021. The I.C.E. Certified Credentialing Professional® (ICE-CCP®) allows credentialing professionals to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and abilities in governance, program operations, and assessment development and validation. As the professional home for credentialing organizations and individuals, I.C.E. serves as the primary resource for best practices and is uniquely qualified to develop this certification opportunity for credentialing professionals.

Purpose of Credential

Holders of the I.C.E. Certified Credentialing Professional® certification have demonstrated competence in professional credentialing, including in governance and resources, credentialing program operations, and assessment development and validation. Though they may be focused in certain functions in their day to day activities, they have demonstrated knowledge across all credentialing activities and understand the interplay among functions.

Background

I.C.E. began exploring the need and market for certification for credentialing professionals more than ten years ago. The first job analysis of credentialing professionals was completed by I.C.E, with the assistance of several industry partners in 2008-2009. Based on this analysis, I.C.E. developed and released the Certificate for Credentialing Specialist Program in 2014. While the certificate program is valued by those who have completed it and other stakeholders, market research completed for I.C.E. in 2018-2019 indicated a certification that provides a designation is desired. It would add value to the profession, provide a clear career path and ultimately benefit individuals and organizations.

Following an open call for volunteers, approximately 100 credentialing professionals with diversified experience stepped forward and offered to serve as subject matter experts. These individuals served on the Job Analysis or standard setting panels, wrote draft examination items and participated in review of the beta examination forms, contributing to the high standards of quality expected by the profession.

Certification Services Council

The Certification Services Council (CSC) is established as a standing committee of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (I.C.E.). The CSC is empowered by the I.C.E. Board of Directors and I.C.E. Bylaws to provide oversight and governance for the I.C.E. certification program. Through the CSC, I.C.E. offers the I.C.E. Certified Credentialing Professional certification program. The CSC is tasked with establishing policies and procedures related to the certification program.
